Thailand · First visit
Bangkok in 4 days
Golden temples. Riverside pauses. One more bite.
A first visit built around the river, the old city and Bangkok's food neighbourhoods. Start early, leave room for the heat, and give each part of the city its own time.

Your four-day route.
Choose a day · suggested times
Day 1 · Temples first, a slower afternoon
The royal city & the river
Rattanakosin → Tha Tien → Wat Arun
Grand Palace & Wat Phra Kaew
Give the palace courtyards and temple your full morning rather than squeezing them between other stops.
Wat Pho
Continue to the nearby temple complex and its reclining Buddha. Keep shoulders and knees covered.
Lunch & a pause around Tha Tien
Choose a sit-down meal and cool off before crossing the river.
Wat Arun
Cross to the Thonburi bank and take time with the temple's ceramic details and river views.
A riverside dinner
Keep the evening close to the river. Reserve a terrace if a particular view matters to you.
Eat nearby.
Around Tha Tien, choose a Thai curry with rice or a simple vegetable stir-fry. For dinner, stay by the river instead of adding another long transfer.
Good to know today
Check the palace's official calendar and dress rules before visiting. Leave the hottest part of the day for lunch and a break.
If plans change
If the palace closes for a ceremony, keep Wat Pho and the river, then move the palace to another morning. In heavy rain, postpone the crossing.
Day 2 · A neighbourhood day with a food-focused finish
Old trading streets & Chinatown
Talat Noi → Charoen Krung → Yaowarat
Talat Noi lanes
Look for small shrines, workshop streets and glimpses of the river. Keep clear of working doorways.
Lunch near Charoen Krung
Take a proper lunch break, then explore the surrounding shopfronts at your own pace.
River City & a café break
Browse whatever exhibitions are on, or use the afternoon for a shaded pause by the river.
Chinatown before dinner
Explore the streets around Yaowarat before choosing what to eat. Order a little at a time.
A Yaowarat food evening
Make dinner a few small dishes rather than one large meal, with time to sit between stops.
Eat nearby.
Try a noodle soup or rice dish for lunch, then choose cooked-to-order dishes and a dessert in Chinatown. Ask about ingredients to suit your preferences.
Good to know today
Treat this as a walking route with frequent café stops. Street-food stalls and small businesses keep their own hours.
If plans change
Use indoor exhibitions and cafés around Charoen Krung during a downpour; return to the walking lanes when it clears.
Day 3 · Indoors at midday, outdoors later
Design, shopping & a green escape
National Stadium → Siam → Sukhumvit
Jim Thompson House
Start with the house museum and gardens. Check the visit arrangements before choosing your morning slot.
Bangkok Art and Culture Centre
Choose a current exhibition rather than trying to see every floor.
Lunch & browsing in Siam
Use the hottest part of the afternoon for food, design shops or an air-conditioned break.
Benchakitti Park
Take the train towards Sukhumvit, then slow down with a walk through the park as the heat eases.
Dinner near your return route
Choose a neighbourhood restaurant around Sukhumvit or head back towards your hotel.
Eat nearby.
A Siam food court gives the group different lunch choices. At dinner, pick a shared Thai meal or a simpler noodle-and-rice option near your hotel.
Good to know today
Bangkok Art and Culture Centre normally closes on Mondays. Check the current programme and swap in the Siam shops if needed.
If plans change
If rain persists, keep the museum, exhibitions and Siam. Move the park to a clearer afternoon.
Day 4 · A lighter day with room for departure
Markets & a flexible finish
Chatuchak → Or Tor Kor → Ari
Chatuchak, if it is the weekend
Browse a few sections with a meeting point agreed in advance. Weekday alternative: start with the food-market stop below.
Or Tor Kor food market
Explore produce and prepared food, then choose an easy lunch rather than booking another attraction.
Ari cafés & side streets
Take a final neighbourhood wander and a coffee break, keeping luggage and departure logistics in mind.
Leave a real departure buffer
Return for bags or take a longer break if you are staying on. Plan the airport journey separately.
Eat nearby.
Choose a market lunch and fruit, or a café meal in Ari. The last day is deliberately flexible rather than another reservation-heavy route.
Good to know today
Use the main Chatuchak market on a weekend. On a weekday, give the food market and Ari more time; confirm individual market and shop hours.
If plans change
Replace outdoor browsing with a café and an indoor shopping stop. Shorten this day first if your flight is early.
Showing day 1: The royal city & the river
A little local direction.
Where to stay
Choose a hotel near a BTS or MRT station. Silom, Asok and the riverside offer different starting points; check the walk from the actual hotel to the station.
Getting around
Use the MRT and BTS between districts, river boats for riverside stops, and a taxi when the last stretch is inconvenient. Leave generous transfer time rather than crossing town repeatedly.
What to pack
Comfortable walking shoes, a refillable bottle, sun protection and a compact rain layer. Carry clothing that meets the Grand Palace and temple dress rules.
