Your four-day route.
Choose a day · suggested times
Day 1 · Street-level exploring, then a view
Old Town Central & the Peak
Sheung Wan → Central → the Peak
Sheung Wan & Man Mo Temple
Start with the older streets around Hollywood Road and a respectful visit to the temple.
PMQ & the Central lanes
Browse design shops and small streets without turning the morning into a shopping checklist.
Dim sum or a café lunch
Take a lunch break around Central or Soho before heading uphill.
The Peak
Choose the tram or another transport option, then allow time to enjoy the view instead of immediately returning.
Dinner back in Central
Keep the last meal near your return route, with time for a harbourfront stroll if you still have energy.
Eat nearby.
Choose dim sum or wonton noodles at lunch. For dinner, Central gives you Cantonese dishes or a wide choice of other cuisines.
Good to know today
Put the Peak on your clearest day. In low cloud, keep exploring Central and move the viewpoint to another afternoon.
If plans change
Stay in Central's galleries, shops and cafés when visibility is poor. Save the Peak for a clearer window.
Day 2 · Waterfront first, a lively evening later
Kowloon, from the harbour to the streets
Star Ferry → Tsim Sha Tsui → Jordan
Cross Victoria Harbour
Take the Star Ferry to Tsim Sha Tsui as part of the journey, not just a way to tick off a view.
Tsim Sha Tsui promenade
Walk the waterfront and the Avenue of Stars with the skyline across the water.
Lunch in Tsim Sha Tsui
Step back from the waterfront for a sit-down meal and a break from walking.
Hong Kong Museum of Art or a slow afternoon
Choose an exhibition that interests you, or keep the afternoon for neighbourhood exploring.
Temple Street & Jordan
Explore the evening streets, then choose dinner rather than trying to fit every market into one night.
Eat nearby.
Try a cha chaan teng lunch or a noodle shop. Around Jordan, compare menus for claypot rice or a shared Cantonese dinner.
Good to know today
Museum exhibitions and small businesses have separate opening calendars. Check the current programme before committing to an indoor visit.
If plans change
Use the museum and an indoor meal during rain, then return to the harbour when conditions improve.
Day 3 · A full island day; keep the evening free
A day on Lantau
Tung Chung → Ngong Ping → optional Tai O
Travel to Tung Chung
Leave room for the MTR journey and queues before your cable-car reservation.
Ngong Ping 360
Ride up towards Ngong Ping if the service is running and conditions are suitable.
Big Buddha & Po Lin Monastery
Explore the monastery area and decide whether the steps up to the Buddha suit your group.
A relaxed lunch
Eat around Ngong Ping before deciding how much more you want to do.
Tai O, or return at your own pace
Optional: continue by local transport to the fishing village. Otherwise head back without adding another leg.
Eat nearby.
A vegetarian meal around the monastery is one option. If continuing to Tai O, try a village snack or a sit-down meal before returning.
Good to know today
Ngong Ping 360 has announced a cable-car maintenance closure on 10 November 2026. Check current notices for your dates. Skip Tai O if you prefer a slower return.
If plans change
For cable-car closures, assess the official alternative transport and the weather. In severe weather, swap the entire island day for indoor city activities.
Day 4 · Small shops, good food, an open afternoon
Neighbourhood finds & a harbour farewell
Sham Shui Po → West Kowloon
Sham Shui Po's market streets
Explore a few specialist streets and watch the neighbourhood go about its morning.
Tai Nan Street cafés & makers
Browse independent shops and pause for a drink rather than rushing between districts.
A neighbourhood lunch
Choose a local café or noodle shop before making your way towards West Kowloon.
West Kowloon waterfront or M+
Finish outdoors in good weather, or book an exhibition if that is more your pace.
Eat nearby.
Try a Hong Kong-style café breakfast, then a noodle lunch or dim sum. Keep the final afternoon flexible for the journey home.
Good to know today
Choose either a museum visit or a longer waterfront break in the afternoon. Shorten this route around your departure.
If plans change
Book an indoor museum visit after checking its opening day, or stay with the cafés and shops near your hotel.
Showing day 1: Old Town Central & the Peak
A little local direction.
Where to stay
Central or Sheung Wan suits Hong Kong Island exploring; Tsim Sha Tsui is convenient for the Kowloon waterfront. Choose proximity to an MTR station over a long daily taxi ride.
Getting around
Use the MTR for longer hops and ferries when the crossing is part of the day. Leave extra time for Lantau; check the cable car and ferry operators before setting out.
What to pack
Walking shoes for steep streets, a light layer for air-conditioned interiors, a compact umbrella and sun protection. The Lantau day includes steps and outdoor time.
